About Lagos

The town of Lagos has a long history and is associated with exploration of the New World.

There is a town museum and various attractions celebrating this theme.

Casa Sebastião and Studio Thomas are neighbouring properties, situated inside the city walls which wrap round the historic centre and enclose the narrow winding cobbled streets.

There are several beaches within walking distance of the houses and the main beach, Meia Praia, can be reached by a footbridge.

Meia Praia is a 5km expanse of golden sands offering ample space for sun-worshipping all year round and for enjoying the ocean.

Lagos boasts several bars and restaurants along its length for a relaxed lunch. Cafes and bars line the marina which is also reached by the footbridge.

It is not necessary to have a car to enjoy a holiday in Lagos but it does give more freedom to explore the glorious West coast, with its stunning unspoilt beaches, increasingly well known as a surfer's paradise.  Many companies offer tuition for all levels and equipment hire.

It is also possible to take a boat trip from Lagos harbour, either a rowing boat with outboard to explore the caves and grottos, a bigger traditional sailing boat for a day's sailing and a swim, or a fishing boat to try your luck at catching some fresh fish for dinner.

There is an excellent zoo located about 8kms outside Lagos, set in beautiful countryside. Here there is a good show of primates, birds and other creatures, plus a section especially suitable for younger visitors.

Tony and I have lived in the Algarve for more than twenty five years, living in our farmhouse in the countryside just outside Lagos.

We originally lived the good life and farmed the land, growing mainly soft fruit, and selling our produce to local shops and in the Saturday farmers' market. We brought up our two children here and gave them a wonderful childhood in these idyllic surroundings.

Mary PalmerAfter twelve years of this we both took more conventional work, I working for various legal firms and Tony as a builder. Once the children had completed university we decided on another change of lifestyle and invested in the houses we now run as holiday properties, spending several years meticulously renovating and rebuilding them, overseeing every step. This change of lifestyle allows us more time to enjoy the farm and the natural beauty of the area.

Our hobbies include cycling, running, golf and swimming, and this area offers ample scope to do all of these sports.

Having lived here so long we are well able to offer advice and information on local activities, facilities and all aspects of life in the Algarve. I speak English, German and Portuguese fluently and can get by in French and Spanish.
