Casa Antonio - One bedroom House - Figueira, Algarve

Casa Antonio is a spacious one bedroom property on two levels, offering modern amenities in a rustic setting.

The house was completely rebuilt in 2014 and, through recreating its authenticity, is imbued with a feeling of rural tranquillity.

The property is entered through wooden double doors, in the corner of a village square, onto a small cobbled courtyard which is equipped with a seating area and charcoal barbecue.

The main door leads into an open plan, roomy kitchen / dining area on the ground floor which also houses a utility room with washing machine and a good sized bathroom with walk in shower, bidet, WC and hand basin.

The wooden staircase leads up from the kitchen to a spacious, high ceilinged bedroom, with seating for two and satellite TV at one end.

Accessed from the bedroom, by old reclaimed wooden double doors, is the delightful tiled covered terrace with seating area - perfect for relaxing in the evenings.

The house has a well equipped kitchen with electric hob, oven and fridge freezer, and there is air conditioning in the kitchen and bedroom.

Internet is available, as well as satellite TV.

About Figueira

The quiet traditional village of Figueira, in the Western Algarve, is located midway between the towns of Lagos and Sagres. The beaches in this area are spectacular and the nearest, Figueira beach, is only a 25 minute walk away.

Being on the edge of a Nature Reserve, building is strictly controlled thus preserving its unspoilt nature.

Further along the south coast and up the West Coast are yet more beautiful beaches with vast expanses of sand.

Lagos, Sagres, Aljezur and the stunning nature reserve of the Costa Vicentina on the West Coast are all less than 30 minutes drive from Figueira. Monchique and Silves are a little further away but well worth the journey. There are a variety of day excursions awaiting you.

Figueira village has several small shops, bars and restaurants, and there is a supermarket in the village of Budens, 5 minutes away by car, with a wide selection of groceries and household goods.

The nearest major town is Lagos which is well known for its historical connections. It offers a lively night life in the summer, colourful street entertainments, stalls and shows.

The fishing village of Salema is just 5 minutes away, by car, where you will find a good choice of restaurants, many of which specialise in fresh fish.

Visit Cabo de São Vicente in Sagres, enjoy wandering the streets of the historic town of Lagos, explore the castle towns of Aljezur and Silves and experience the breathtaking mountain views from Monchique, famous for its local liquor "Medronho", made from the Arbutus berry.

Parque da Floresta, a golf and leisure resort is a five minute drive from Figueira, and has a wide range of facilities including bowls, tennis, golf and spa.

From a stroll around the Barragem de Bravura, a large reservoir nested in a valley of fragrant eucalyptus, to a walk to the "End of the World", Cabo de São Vicente, the most westerly point of mainland Europe. There are many days of exploring available to you.

You can take boat rides to visit the grottoes along the coast, enjoy the crashing Atlantic waves of the west coast, or just relax on one of the many beautiful beaches that surround the area.

Tony and I have lived in the Algarve for more than twenty five years, living in our farmhouse in the countryside just outside Lagos.

We originally lived the good life and farmed the land, growing mainly soft fruit, and selling our produce to local shops and in the Saturday farmers' market. We brought up our two children here and gave them a wonderful childhood in these idyllic surroundings.

Mary PalmerAfter twelve years of this we both took more conventional work, I working for various legal firms and Tony as a builder. Once the children had completed university we decided on another change of lifestyle and invested in the houses we now run as holiday properties, spending several years meticulously renovating and rebuilding them, overseeing every step. This change of lifestyle allows us more time to enjoy the farm and the natural beauty of the area.

Our hobbies include cycling, running, golf and swimming, and this area offers ample scope to do all of these sports.

Having lived here so long we are well able to offer advice and information on local activities, facilities and all aspects of life in the Algarve. I speak English, German and Portuguese fluently and can get by in French and Spanish.
